News: Bishop-ulama group tasked to oversee truce; hit as cheap move
NewsMay 9, 2008

Presidential Adviser to the Peace Process Secretary Jesus Dureza told newsmen in Manila that the government is intending to tap the services of a local interfaith group to help implement its ceasefire with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) after the Malaysian contingents to the International Monitoring Team (IMT) pull back to Kuala Lumpur starting tomorrow, May 10.

News: 'Government spins for constitutional conundrum’
NewsMay 8, 2008

Is the Arroyo presidency squandering the primacy of the peace process she had once pronounced in a presidential action directive? International wire services and national media reports this week is indicative of a deepening snag that impelled Kuala Lumpur to pull back its contingent in the IMT.
The Government-MILF peace talks with a multinational Malaysian-led International Monitoring Team all seems a bright spot for a while. What is now getting in the way of such evident progress in the GRP-MILF peace talks? The government side, mostly.

News: IMT pull-out forum held
News
May 8, 2008

A whole-day forum was held in Cotabato City yesterday on the prevailing scorching hot issue of the pull back by the Malaysian contingent with the Malaysia-led International Monitoring Team (IMT), an international body that principally monitors the ceasefire between the Government of the Republic of the Philippines (GRP) and Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF). Key players and stakeholders of the ongoing peace process between the GRP and MILF, particularly the peace negotiators of the two parties, warmly participated in the forum organized by the Institute for Bangsamoro Studies (IBS), Institute for Autonomy and Governance (IAG) and Konrad Adenauer Stiftung.

News: MILF: Why link Sabah issue to stalled talks?
NewsMay 7, 2008

The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) hit the Philippine government anew over Manila’s attempt to link the decades-old Sabah claim to the stalled GRP-MILF Peace Talks, as part of its last ditch-tactics to stave off vicious attacks from many quarters for deliberately delaying the talks. Muhammad Ameen, chairperson of the MILF secretariat, told Luwaran that the Philippine government is bringing up the issue of Sabah to the talks as part of its silent “Hate Malaysia” campaign in a bid to discredit and replace Malaysia as facilitator of the talks.

News: MILF denies ever said KL is withdrawing as facilitator
NewsMay 6, 2008

Ghazali Jaafar, MILF deputy chairman for political affairs, flatly denied making statement to the Philippine Daily Inquirer, May 5 & 6 issues, that Malaysia “will totally abandon its role as the main facilitator in the peace talks if nothing more happens after their pullout.” “This is a gross misrepresentation of facts and I called on the PDI reporters Christine Avendano and Jeoffrey Maitum to correct their news article immediately for the sake of fairplay and truth,” he called Luwaran by phone.
