MILF: �Without letup� means forever for GRP

The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) has twitted the Philippine government anew over its cheap alibis and shallow pretexts resulting to the delay in the resumption of the peace talks to finalize the memorandum of agreement on ancestral domain. Khaled Musa, deputy chairman of the MILF committee on information, told Luwaran that Secretary Jesus Dureza, presidential adviser on the peace process, in his April 30 official statement said the government is not delaying the peace talks with the MILF but “doing due diligence in completing the government’s final draft of the ancestral domain agreement to ensure that it is implementable and defensible.”

A little pass two o’clock in the afternoon yesterday while the members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) in Sitio Sellangan, Barangay Baguindan, Tipo-Tipo, Basilan when suddenly some elements of the Philippine Marines opened fire at them prompting sudden clash and displacements of civilians again caused by deliberate truce violation by government forces. “After the government had veered away from the peace negotiations with the MILF, now the occupation Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is attacking our forces and innocent civilians,” Ustaz Hamza Sapanton told luwaran.

MGen Yasin handovers IMT 4 to Admiral Amzah

His Excellency MGen Datuk Mat Yasin Bin Mat Daud formally handed over the Head of Mission post with the Malaysia-led International Monitoring Team (IMT) – Mindanao IV to First Admiral Dato’ Pahlawan Amzah Bin Sulaiman. The brief turnover ceremony was conducted two days ago at the IMT Headquarters in Cotabato City. Admiral Amzah was the Deputy Head of Mission of MGen Yasin.

The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) has urged all leaders of the Bangsamoro people in the face of orchestrated efforts by the Arroyo administration to play one leader or group against another. Muhammad Ameen, chairperson of the MILF secretariat, told Luwaran by phone that it becomes so obvious that the evil hands of manipulation by the powers that be in the highest echelon of government is working day and night to divide the Bangsamoro people in order to weaken them.

MILF appreciates Libyan gesture on IMT but to lead is another matter

The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) has clarified today that it welcomes the gesture of the Libyan government to help the ceasefire hold in Mindanao but to replace Malaysia as lead country in the 60-man International Monitoring Team (IMT) is entirely a different matter. This clarification was made by Ghazali Jaafar, MILF deputy chairman for political affairs, in the light of another media misquoting him as saying that the MILF welcomes Libya as lead peace-keepers replacing Malaysia.

Khaled Musa, deputy chairman of the MILF committee on information, asked the Arroyo administration where is that dedication to peace that President Arroyo is talking about when ancestral domain aspect of the Tripoli Agreement of 2001 remained unsigned, despite government and MILF peace negotiators have already agreed on the draft memorandum of agreement (MOA).

IMT Mission Head to leave with single ceasefire record

MGen Datuk Mat Yasin Bin Mat Daud, Head of Mission of the Malaysia-led International Monitoring Team (IMT) – Mindanao IV, will hand over his post in less than a week time. First Admiral Dato’ Pahlawan Amzah Bin Sulaiman, IMT Deputy Head of Mission, will assume as the Head of Mission. A single incident of ceasefire violation had occurred during the eight-month stewardship of MGen Datuk Yasin, a period quarter and a month short of the regular one-year mandate of the IMT.

Arroyo chooses path of war instead of peace, MILF says

The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) has accused the Arroyo administration of deliberately reverting to war after it consistently refused to honor and abide by the 49 consensus points or so on ancestral domain, which the government and MILF peace negotiators have patiently and “jointly crafted, agreed and signed” for more than three years since December 2004 when ancestral domain issue was put on the agenda of the talks for the first time. The Tripoli Agreement on Peace on June 22, 2001 contained three aspects namely, security (ceasefire), rehabilitation and humanitarian, and ancestral domain. The first two aspects were hurdled by the Parties including their implementing guidelines as early as May 2002, but ancestral domain remained untouched after more than two years. The government persisted to elude the issue and table it for discussion.

MILF: Save the peace process

“Who can salvage the peace process now from brink of collapse?” This was the question of paramount concern raised yesterday by Vice Chairman Ghazali Jaafar of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) Central Committee during the farewell program tendered for the outgoing members of Malaysia-led IMT in Darapanan. Today, some 28 Malaysian security contingents with the International Monitoring Team (IMT), that principally monitors the ceasefire between the government and the MILF, will go back to Kuala Lumpar without completing their supposed one-year tour of duty.

Presidential Adviser to the Peace Process Secretary Jesus Dureza told newsmen in Manila that the government is intending to tap the services of a local interfaith group to help implement its ceasefire with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) after the Malaysian contingents to the International Monitoring Team (IMT) pull back to Kuala Lumpur starting tomorrow, May 10.
