June 30, 2012 News: The chairman of a militant Moro youth organization has called on the Moros of Zamboanga City to show their dislikes for the discriminatory and racist policies of Zamboanga City Mayor Celso Lobregat by siding and voting for his political opponent on May 2013 elections.

Although the Moros are the minority in this city in a ratio of one is to four but in terms of lands, they occupied a larger area than all non-Moros combined.

Arsad Solaiman, head of the Youth for Genuine Bangsamoro Empowerent (YBGE), has appealed to Moros especially the youth of voting age of this city to vote for whoever is the opponent of Lobregat in the forthcoming polls.

He said Lobregat has to go now and the only way is to throw him out of office by electing another in his place.

“Let him suffer a humiliating defeat from the hands of Moro voters, like what befell former Governor Manny Piñol of North Cotabato who kissed the dust of defeat for his anti-Moro, anti-peace negotiation stance.

Piñol will have no chance of a comeback as long as Moro votes are counted properly.

Lobregat, who has finished his three-term limits in office, will likely run as representative of this city’s first district, which will be left vacant by Salazar.

Solaiman added that whoever will be the opponent of Lobregat in the forthcoming polls must be supported by the Moro voters.

“The old score between our people and Lobregat is not an ordinary feud, which has no basis on principles, but ours with Lobregat is well grounded on the issues of peace and justice,” he explained.

“Unless Lobregat makes amend and changes his perception and treat Moros on the basis of parity of esteem, the feud will stay,” he warned.
