July 30, 2012 News – The feud that flared into armed encounter in Sultan sa Barongis, Maguindanao had been resolved by the leadership o f the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).

Von Al Haq, Spokesperson of the Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces (BIAF) – MILF, said the fighting had already ceased last Friday following the commitment of the feuding parties to abide by the resolution initiated by MILF top leadership.

Al Haq said the armed encounter at Barangay Tukanakuden in Sultan Sa Barongis involving members of the MILF’s 106th and 105th Base Commands last Thursday was due to land conflict situated in the area.

He, however, clarified “while the feud was very personal in nature but the MILF makes serious moves and priority initiatives to immediately resolve feud like this unfortunate case.”

Internally displaced persons affected by the fire fight already went back to their places of origin.

“We will emplace measures to see to it that the fighting between our brothers will not happen again,” Al Haq said.

A team composed by the General Staff – BIAF is organized to work on a workable amicable settlement and lasting solution to the land conflict, and above all the reconciliation of both sides.

Disciplinary actions commensurate to the recommendations of the team will be imposed by the MILF Central Committee to those who got involved with the firefight, said a high ranking official of MILF.

“Certainly, some disciplinary sanctions shall be imposed but at this point in time we cannot be particular. It would depend on established facts and findings,” he said.
