48 Asatidz, Moro professionals complete Shari’ah Training

Forty-eight (48) Asatidz (Madrasah teachers) and Moro professionals from South-Central Mindanao completed the Second Series Philippine Shari’ah (Islamic Jurisprudence) Training Seminar hosted by the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos- Socsargen Field Office.

The trainees held classes seven days a week from December 26, 2016 to February 6, 2017 at General Santos City Training Center.

The implementation of Shari’ah in the Philippines is provided by Presidential Decree 1083 or known as the Code of Muslim Personal Laws. It covers family relations, marriage, and succession.

Shariah Circuit Court Judges Datukaka Camsa and Montano Kalimpo were tapped as the resource persons. They were joined by Atty. Ubaida Pacasem, Chief of the Legal Division of NCMF Region XII, and Shari’ah Lawyer Nashrodin Calib from the Legal Division in Cotabato City.

There were 30 male training participants namely Jayson Addat, Ryan Ali, Ibrahim Andang, Norzaide Bayamban, Nacer Canacan, Norkhadafe Datuwata, Ali Diahing, Alonto Diga, Junjun Espe, Mohalidin Gayak, Albin Guiani, Mohammad Ashraf Hassan, Ahmad Hashim, Samier Ibrahim, Abdulgani Kalipa, Mouchtar Kamid, Marcos Kusain, Abdulbayan Laguialam, Joseph Lontayao, Gringo Maquiling, Armando Masahod, Jamil Abdulcader, Celimont Montaner, Alhaber Nawa, Haron Rajahbuayan, Datuwata Sambuto, Moner Samsudin, Benjamin Wahab, Khalid Bhen Mero and Ebrahim Norodin.

The 18 female participants were Noreen Adtud, Asma Akmad, Norhaina Alaiden, Roslaini Ali, Sitti ALfat Ali, Michelle Ambia, Sittie Sheirina Benito, Loida Beth Cali, Mary Joy Cayanong, Nur-ayn Ismael, Jocelyn Lambac-Kanda, Noraisa Mama, Juhaira Marohomsalic, Azizah Rubio, Junaisa Sambuto, Aida Seddic, Lyan Sirag and Rizza Mae Tan.

NCMF Bureau of Muslim Cultural Affairs Director Laman Piang graced the occasion. Lawyer Datu Michael Mastura was the guest speaker.

NCMF Socsargen Field Director Shari’ah Lawyer Guialil R. Kanda, the lead organizer of the training, said the participants will take the Shari’ah Bar Exam to be facilitated by the Supreme Court on January next year.

Class President Ibrahim Andang thanked the organizers. He hoped someday the full implementation of Shari’ah in the Philippines will be realized.

The proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law, the legal translation of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro, the peace deal signed by the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front in 2014, seeks the expansion of the coverage of Shari’ah to include criminal cases.

The lawmakers failed to pass the BBL in the 16th Congress. The Bangsamoro people are hopeful that in the stint of President Rodrigo Duterte, the proposed enabling law, the original BBL with integration of the provisions of 1996 Government of the Republic of the Philippines-Moro National Liberation Front Final Peace Agreement will be passed by the Philippine Congress.
