JWGRLP Join Efforts in Propagating Message of Peace

Manila, Philippines - The Joint Working Group of Religious Leaders for Peace (JWGRLP) led by Sheikh Abdulhadie Gumander III for Muslim Religious group, and Reverent Aldrin Penamora,  Phil. Council of Evangelical Churches Exec, Director for Christian-Muslim Relations, joined efforts in propagating message of peace and giving awareness on the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) to achieve long lasting peace in Mindanao. 

Last October 24-25, 2018 at Mall of Al Nor, Cotabato City, they presented a Statement of Cooperation to MILF Chair Al Haj Murad Ebrahim, MILF Peace Implementing Panel Chair Mohagher Iqbal, as official expression of their sincerity in working for peace.

On the 1st day of the Bicameral Conference Committee meeting at Crowne Plaza, Mandaluyong City on July 9, 2018, the leaders of JWGRLP submitted to the Secretariat of two Chambers of Congress a Manifesto appealing to the lawmakers to restore all deleted, and/or amended provisions of BBL drafted by the Bangsamoro Transition Commission (BTC) that will entrench a new region called Bangsamoro. 

In an interview, Sheikh Gumander III, he stressed that they initiated to unify their intention and action to achieve peace in the Bangsamoro and the entire country in order to address the centuries old biases and prejudices towards the Moro People resulting to marginalization and oppression of the inhabitants of Mindanao. 

MILF Chairman, Al Haj Murad in his response said, “We recognize and thanks every effort of any group or sector, nor any individual who can contribute to the struggle of Bangsamoro because we believe that a collective effort will strengthen our advocacy for peace. With that, let us continue our endeavor for peace. Your activities in the ground by educating and informing your constituency about the situation of the peace process is truly appreciated by the leadership. 

For his part, Reverent Dr. Penamora said that, “We are explaining to the constituencies that politically, we have to understand on how do we live in a plural society which will give importance of having good perception that will bridge a harmonious relationship between and among individuals and in a diverse community. 

Chairman Iqbal in response said, “What is in the BBL is building a bridge to connect people in the name of peace. It is about reaching people to dialogue that creates bridge to discuss what are affecting to their communities. For this reason, there is a greater chance in addressing concerns of society. It reaching people and groups with moral ascendancy because people have the heart to listen and follow their leaders especially from Muslim and Christian religious sectors. 

“To be able to make it more effective, dialogue should be process because it connects bridging people and to organizations like religious group,” he added.
