Message for Bangsamoro Organic Law Campaign Period

(December 7, 2018)

The campaign period for the ratification of the Republic Act 11054, or the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) begins on December 7. It ends on January 19, and then two days later, the Bangsamoro people and other inhabitants of the proposed Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (BAR) will vote on the BOL. A yes vote is a vote for peace, justice, and progress, while a no vote is a vote for uncertainty.

I call upon everyone to discern and exercise wisdom to make the right decision. The BOL is not an ordinary piece of legislation; it is based on the Framework Agreement on the Bangsamoro (FAB) and the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB) as well as the remaining substantive gains of the GRP-MNLF Final Agreement of 1996. It is a good law which we can use to start in establishing a good place for our peoples to live in, free from fear, hunger, and oppression.

Moreover, the BOL is not given to us in silver platter. We paid for it with the “blood, sweats, tears” of our people. Therefore, it is incumbent upon us to support and vote yes for the ratification of the BOL.

I thank all the peace advocates and volunteers who cooperated with one another to make our dreams through the ratification of the BOL come true. All your hard work and dedication are truly inspiring, and we who have started this struggle more than 40 years ago can see that the future of the Bangsamoro is bright, peaceful and prosperous.

Peace be with you all!
