BARMM Ministry of Education ensures access to education for Children in School-less Barangays in the Region

ILIGAN CITY - Affirmative action to ensure access to education for Children in School-less Barangays in BARMM was initiated by the Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical (Madaris) Education (MBHTE) of the Bangsamoro Autonomous region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) to make sure Children in Barangays without schools and in difficult circumstances are provided with appropriate education services.

These are among of the concrete actions of the Ministry headed by Mohagher Iqbal in order to provide the basic foundation rights of Children specially in far flung villages of BARMM and other contiguous Moro communities.

In preparation for the activity, the MBHTE have recently trained enumerators in Zamboanga City last June 9-10 composed of 40 participants coming from the provinces of Tawi-Tawi, Sulu, Basilan and Lamitan City.

Today, from June 12-13, here in Iligan City, 40 enumerators from the Lanao del Sur, Lanao del Norte and Marawi City will undergo similar training-workshop and on June 17-18 another 40 researchers from the province of Maguindanao, 63 Barangays in North Cotabato, and Cotabato City will also be trained.

Iqbal in his statement read on his behalf by Dr. Rahib Kudto, Deputy Minister for Basic Education,  extended his thanks to the all-out support of the Bangsamoro people for the ratification of Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) in order to achieve the Bangsamoro Government. 

“Subalit dapat nating pakatatandaan na ang lahat ng ito ay dahil sa pahintulot at kagustuhan ng Allah (SWT) kung kaya’t meron tayong lubos na responsibilidad na pag-ingatan at tuloy-tuloy na magtutulungan upang mapangalagaan at maging kapaki-pakinabang para salahat ang napakagandang bahaging ito ng ating kasaysayan bilang mga Bangsamoro,” Iqbal pointed out.

Iqbal said the first priority of the BARMM is education. 

The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) which is now leading the transition authority of BARMM believes that education is the key to development, freedom against oppression, and true peace that will bring justice. 

He also said the BARMM is not yet the end of the Bangsamoro struggle.

“Ang pagsasabatas ng BOL at pagkakataong pamahalaan ang BARMM ay hindi katapusan bagkus ito ang panibagong simula ng ating struggle bagamat ito ay simula ng ating panalo ay hindi pa ito ang tagumpay na nais nating makamtan. Ang ating layunin ay maprotektahan ang homeland at matamasa ng Bangsamoro ang ating RSD, at karapatang magkaroon ng masaganang pamumuhay ngayon at sa susunod na henerasyon,” Iqbal continued in vernacular.

The objectives of the research study are by August 2019 reliable/accurate data on actual number of teachers and learners in all schools in 10 Divisions (including Cotabato City) plus 63 Barangays in North Cotabato gathered and made available for analysis and utilization in the crafting of policy decisions on teacher movement and deployment.

And by June 2020 all school-aged children in selected barangays without schools and in difficult circumstances are able to enroll or access learning activities in conducive learning spaces.

The project is in partnership with the United Youth for Peace and Development (UNYPAD), the Bangsamoro Development Authority (BDA) and with support from UNICEF.
