BARMM Athletes prepare for Palarong Pambansa 2020

COTABATO CITY – Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Athletic Association (BARMMAA) is preparing its athletes for the Palarong Pambansa 2020 after the successful culmination of 5-day Sports fest on January 21 held at the host School Division of Maguindanao 2 of the Ministry on Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE), Upi, Maguindanao. 

Director Taya Aplal, MBHTE Sports Coordinator said that the just concluded 1st Palarong BARMMAA under the leadership of Minister Mohagher Iqbal was participated in by 6,000 athletes, coaches, and other sports enthusiasts.

“The athletes have elevated in as much as their values, discipline, teamwork, and trustworthiness are concerned,” Aplal said. 

On technicalities related to performance, skills, knowledge, and techniques, Aplal said “they soared high.”

The materials used by the athletes is best in quality. The boxing ring is standard. “The feature of the ring scene used by “Pambansang Kamao” Manny Pacman Pacquiao in his fight is the same standard used in the BARMMAA competition,” said Aplal.

Among the promising event that is expected to give medals for the BARMM Region in the Palarong Pambansa 2020 is football game elementary level where the Bangsamoro footballers garnered bronze medals in the 2019 Palarong Pambansa.

Aplal said, they are targeting from Rank 17 during the defunct Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) moving to the 11th Placer in the Palarong Pambansa last 2019, and the BARMM will become part of the spotlight, at least 10th place or if possible, the region can reduce the two-digit rank to one digit only in the national sports competition. 

The overall champion for the 1st Palarong BARMMAA was the School Division II of Maguindanao with 31 gold medals in elementary level and 45 gold medals in secondary school level.

Director Aplal announced that from the 262 delegation coming from Basilan, and 25 athletes were able to qualify for 2020 Palarong Pambansa, Lamitan City with 293 delegation with 35 qualified athletes, Lanao Sur-I with 325 delegation has 8 athletes who are qualified to compete, Lanao Sur-II with 369 delegation has 19 qualified athletes, the Maguindanao-I with 644 delegation has 72 qualified athletes, Maguindanao-II with 625 delegation has 106 qualified athletes, Marawi City with 487 delegation is 2 qualified athletes, Sulu with 535 delegation has 80 qualified players, the Tawi-Tawi with 480 delegation has 37 qualified athletes.

Aplal also expressed her gratitude to the administration of BARMM Chief Minister Ahod Balawag Ebrahim for supporting the regional athletic meet joined in by 9 School Divisions of MBHTE.

Meantime, during the closing ceremony of BARMAA, MBHTE Minister Mohager Iqbal urged concerned school officials to motivate delegates who were not be able to top in the games saying the price of success is hard work but for those not triumphant don’t be discouraged.

Iqbal emphasized that “failure is the mother of success”. “In America if you apply for work in a company you will be asked by the manager ‘have you ever suffered failure in your life?’ If you replied ‘no’ then applicant is automatically disqualified.

“If you said that you had sulfured from many failures there is a highest probability that you can be hired,” Iqbal said.  

Iqbal said as Minister of BARMM Education, he is ensuring that no Bangsamoro children will be left behind both in academics and extracurricular activities.

“Today’s success is the beginning of tomorrows achievement thus we hope you will be successful in the 2020 Palarong Pambansa,” he said.
