LGU Gensan announces Thursday, Laylatul Isra wal Miraj, as Muslim holiday

GENERAL SANTOS CITY (March 9, 2021) -- The Local Government Unit of General Santos City announces Thursday (March 11) as Muslim holiday in observance of Laylatul Isra wal Miraj or the Night Journey and Ascension of Prophet Mohamad.
Gensan City Mayor Ronnel Rivera issued a memorandum today for all LGU employees, both regular and Job Orders workers that they will be excused from work on Thursday.

“..the Local Government Unit of General Santos City observes March 11, 2021 (Thursday) as Local Muslim Holiday in observance of Lailatul Isra Wal Miraj. Therefore, Muslims and non-Muslims are all excused from work,” the memorandum stated.

The order was issued after a letter was sent by Aida P. Seddic, OIC Provincial Director of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos – SarGen, informing the city government of the holiday.

Laylatul Isra wal Miraj is observed as holiday by virtue of Article 169, 170 and 172 under Presidential Decree No. 1083, otherwise known as the Code of Muslim Personal Laws and Civil Service Commission Resolution No. 81-1277.

The NCMF earlier issued a memorandum for all its staff of the said holiday. All its offices nationwide will be closed in observance of this holiday.
