MP Iqbal extends condolences to victims of the earthquake in Turkey, Syria

Cotabato City- Amid the tragic Magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria recently, Member of the Parliament of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority Mohagher M. Iqbal concurrently Minister of the Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education, BARMM extended his condolences to the people of Turkiyr and Syria.
In his message circulated publicly, Iqbal said “On behalf of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) Peace Implementing Panel, I want to extend my deepest condolences and sincere consolation to the government and people of Türkiye and Syria after the destructive impact of Monday’s (06 February 2023) series of earthquakes. 

Furthermore, our thoughts are with the families and communities who lost loved ones and friends to this calamity. We also pray for the full recovery of the injured and strength for those involved in search and rescue efforts to reach more survivors.

Türkiye is one of the key partners in the GPH-MILF peace process through their active participation in mechanisms such as the Third-Party Monitoring Team and the International Contact Group. They chair the Independent Decommissioning Body (IDB) that oversees the decommissioning of MILF combatants. Furthermore, Türkiye has existing collaboration in the Bangsamoro in education, trade, peace and development through its government and non-government organizations. Türkiye and Syria are members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which continues to support the Bangsamoro peace process. 
Once again, we are in solidarity with the Türkiye and Syrian governments, the people and all those affected and offer our support and prayers in this difficult time.”

The magnitude 7.8 earthquake rocked Turkey and Syria on Monday.  In Turkey alone, more than 9,000 perished  and injured rose to 37,011. With Syria’s death toll climbing to 2,470, the combined number of people killed in the disaster currently stands at almost 10,000 individuals and is expected to continue to rise throughout the day.
