A Call for Civility and Substance in the BARMM Elections

With the filing of Certificates of Candidacy now complete, the race for various positions in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) is now underway. As political aspirants begin to introduce themselves to the electorate, we urge them to prioritize substance over spectacle and to conduct their campaigns with civility and respect.

The upcoming elections represent a crucial opportunity for the BARMM to continue its journey towards self-governance and to build a brighter future for its people. To ensure that these elections are meaningful and productive, we call upon all candidates to focus on the issues that truly matter to voters. This means engaging in thoughtful discussions about policies, ideas, and solutions that will address the challenges facing the region.

We also urge candidates to treat their opponents with dignity and courtesy. Disagreements are inevitable in a democratic process, but they should be expressed respectfully and constructively. Personal attacks and mudslinging only serve to poison the political atmosphere and detract from the important issues at stake.

Finally, we call upon all candidates to lead by example. Set a positive tone for the campaign, focusing on the shared aspirations of the Bangsamoro people. Encourage others to engage in respectful dialogue and to prioritize the common good.

The people of the BARMM deserve a campaign that is focused on the future, not the past. Let us work together to ensure that these elections are a testament to the strength and maturity of the Bangsamoro democracy.
