BIAF condemns violence in Basilan, calls for strengthened peace mechanisms

Cotabato City -- The Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces (BIAF) has issued a strong condemnation of the recent violent incident in Lower Cabengbeng, Sumisip town, Basilan Province, which resulted in the deaths of two soldiers and the wounding of seven others, including two BIAF members.
In a statement released by BIAF Chief of Staff Sammy Al Mansoor, the organization expressed deep sadness over the incident, calling it a tragedy that undermines the hard-earned peace and stability achieved through the efforts of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), the Government of the Philippines (GPH), and other stakeholders.

"Violence in any form has no place in our society," stated Al Mansoor.

"The BIAF remains firm in upholding the principles of peace, justice and harmony as foundational pillars of the Bangsamoro's progress and prosperity," he said.

The statement calls on both the GPH and the MILF to strengthen the existing peace mechanisms established through their agreements.

"These mechanisms, built on mutual trust, dialogue and shared aspirations, are essential in addressing misunderstandings, resolving conflicts, and fostering unity," Al Mansoor emphasized.

The BIAF Chief of Staff stressed to all BIAF commanders and members that the Basilan incident was a result of miscommunication. He directed them to remain calm, exercise restraint, and refrain from any actions that could jeopardize the peace process.

"Uphold discipline at all times and adhere strictly to the BIAF Code of Conduct and protocols, principles enshrined in the peace process," he instructed, adding that they should remain steadfast in safeguarding and advancing the hard-earned gains of the peace process.

Al Mansoor also appealed to the international community and fellow Filipinos to continue supporting the peace process.

"Let us reject violence and champion initiatives that foster understanding, cooperation, and solidarity among all sectors of society," he stated.

He urged all stakeholders to avoid speculation and allow the ongoing investigation to proceed without interference.

"Justice must be served, and the truth must prevail to honor the sacrifices made by the countless individuals for the peace we now cherish," concluded Al Mansoor.
