Madaris Gensan Adopts Unified Traditional Madrasah Curriculum

GENERAL SANTOS CITY – Beginning school year 2025–2026, the 67 Madaris (Islamic schools) in General Santos City will implement a unified traditional Madrasah curriculum.
To prepare for the rollout, all Madrasah teachers are currently undergoing Curriculum Implementation Training at the City Mayor’s Office – Integrated Cultural Communities Affairs Division (CMO-ICCAD), located at the Kasfala Building in this city.

The training is jointly organized by the CMO-ICCAD and the General Santos City Madaris Federation, Inc. It is scheduled on April 21, 22, 23, 24, 26, and 27, 2025.
The curriculum was developed by Dr. Yousuff Salahuddin Azzaman of the Tarbiyyah Committee. It is specifically designed for private Madaris that hold classes on Saturdays and Sundays.

To ensure the curriculum’s quality and effective delivery, the organizers tapped seven respected Ulama: Sheikh Refae Anato, Sheikh Datulabi Kalunsiang, Sheikh Mashod Dagundol, Sheikh Abdullah Edres, Sheikh Saide Tobias, Sheikh Mohammad Raffy Ali Saripada, and Sheikh Ibrahim Andang, Jr. These Ulama will guide the Madaris teachers on how to deliver the lectures in their respective classes.

Subjects covered in the curriculum include Seerah (Prophetic biography), Lughah (Arabic language), Hadith (Prophetic traditions), Qur’an, Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence), and Tawheed (Islamic monotheism).

“This initiative is part of the continued development of Madrasah education in General Santos City,” said Jocelyn Lambac-Kanda, Division Chief of CMO-ICCAD. She added that a unified curriculum will make it easier to monitor the learning progress of Madaris students across the city’s 15 barangays.

CMO-ICCAD is the division of the LGU Gensan tasked with delivering programs and services for the Muslim communities and Indigenous Peoples in the city.

Sheikh Moctar Alangan, President of the Madaris Federation, expressed his gratitude to the Tarbiyyah Committee in Sugoda Buayan Province, led by Sheikh Mohaliden Kudanding, and to Sheikh Badrosabah Alangan, who chairs the same committee in General Santos City, for their unwavering support of the initiative.

Participation in the training is mandatory for all Madrasah teachers accredited to CMO-ICCAD.
