Iran Retaliates with Massive Missile and Drone Barrage at Israel

In the early hours of June 14, 2025, Iran launched a large-scale retaliatory attack against Israel in response to the Israeli airstrikes on June 13, which struck Iranian nuclear facilities and killed numerous senior military officials and scientists.
Codenamed Operation True Promise III, the Iranian offensive included over 150 ballistic missiles and more than 100 drones targeting key Israeli cities and installations

According to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the missiles struck multiple “strategic and military sites” across Israel, including Tel Aviv, Haifa, Ashdod, and Be’er Sheva. Media footage depicted sirens ringing out and explosions rocking city skylines as air-defense systems worked to intercept the incoming barrage. Israeli authorities confirmed that while many projectiles were intercepted, some missiles did hit residential and military zones in central Israel .

Tehran Times reported that the operation is ongoing, with Iranian officials signaling that further strikes may follow. IRGC advisor General Ahmad Vahidi stated the offensive would continue “as long as necessary,” and Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei denounced the Israeli attack as a “crime,” warning that Israel would be left “helpless” and suffer a “bitter and painful fate”.

A report by Reuters, the Iranian state media, emphasized that the use of ballistic missiles against Israeli infrastructure was a legal and legitimate self-defense action under international law, asserting that responsibility also lies with Israel’s allies, including the United States. With both nations exchanging increasingly destructive firepower, international leaders have voiced urgent calls for restraint, warning of the danger of a broader regional war.
