MALABANG, Lanao del Sur — A long-standing "rido" (family feud) between two prominent clans in Malabang has reached a peaceful conclusion following a successful mediation led by the Ministry of Public Order and Safety in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (MPOS-BARMM).
The settlement, finalized on December 24 at the Malabang Municipal Hall, marks a significant step toward stability in the area. MPOS Deputy Minister Dr. Osmeña Montañer confirmed the resolution on Friday, highlighting the collaborative effort between regional and local authorities.
A Unified Front for Peace
The initiative was a joint operation involving the MPOS, the Malabang Municipal Government, the Malabang Municipal Police Station, and the Philippine Army’s 51st Infantry Battalion.
“We are happy the warring families agreed to end their conflict, hoping it will contribute to the development of their communities,” Montañer said during an interview. He lauded the large clans for their willingness to set aside differences and cooperate with the settlement program.
During the ceremony, the families signed a formal peace agreement, pledging to renounce violence and resolve future grievances through peaceful means. The event concluded with the families embracing—a powerful symbolic gesture of reconciliation and mutual desire for peace.
Local Leadership and Alternative Dispute Resolution
Malabang Mayor Alinader Balindong commended the MPOS for its "steadfast support" in guiding the local mediation team. He noted that the ministry's involvement has been crucial in addressing various family feuds that have historically hindered community progress.
The resolution was facilitated under the MPOS flagship Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Program. This program is central to the BARMM government’s strategy to mitigate violent conflict at the grassroots level.
The Path Forward
Montañer emphasized that the settlement is not just about ending hostilities but about fostering long-term unity. He urged the reconciled groups to prioritize dialogue and ethical leadership as they reintegrate into the social fabric of the municipality.
The MPOS continues to promote the ADR Program across the Bangsamoro region, aiming to settle existing feuds and prevent new ones from escalating, ensuring a safer and more secure environment for all residents.
