Cotabateños mourn the death of Mayor Guiani

Cotabateños (residents of Cotabato City) mourn the demise of their mayor, Japal J. Guiani, Jr., who died of cardiac arrest in a hospital at Davao City this Thursday (Sept 22) morning. 

“It is with deepest sadness that we inform our fellow Cotabateños that our beloved Mayor Japal J. Guiani, Jr. has passed away this morning,” a message posted in the official facebook page of the city government of Cotabato.

“Today is indeed a day for mourning for Cotabato City. We request everyone to say a little prayer for our beloved Mayor Jojo,” the message read. 

The 56-year old “Mayor Jojo,” as he is fondly called, was serving his third term as mayor of Cotabato City.

He has been lauded for being able to attract investors during his first and second tenure as the local chief executive of town.

Relatives and friends extend their condolences to the family of the late mayor.

His sister, Vice-Mayor Cynthia Guiani-Sayadi, is to assume as the new city mayor as per rule of succession provided by the local government code.
