Ulama complete Turkish-sponsored legist training

More than forty Ulama from various parts of Mindanao with specialization in Shari’ah (Islamic jurisprudence) completed a legist training program sponsored by institutions from Turkey. The training was aimed at equipping the Bangsamoro religious leaders with knowledge on international criminal law, human rights and Philippine constitution.

The Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Committees, International Jurist Union and Istanbul Medenyet University were the sponsors of the educational undertaking entitled “Bangsamoro Region Legist Training Certificate Program” held from March 21 to June at Jamiat Cotabato in Cotabato City.

Among the pool of resource persons were Prof.Dr. Refik KorKusuz, Dean of the Faculty of Law at Istanbul Medeniyet University, Prof Dr. M. Hakan Hakeri and Dr Jamiel Istanbul, both Faculty of Law in the same university. They were joined by Dr. Norodin Salam from Cotabato City State Polytechnic College.

The participants also learned from the training the Arbitration, Public Administration and Public Finance.

In the culmination ceremony held last October 1, Dr Kudret Bulbul, president of Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Committees and Dr. M. Ihsan Karaman and Dr. Refik Korkusuz, Dean of the Faculty of Law and Rector, respectively of Istanbul Medeniyet University graced the affair.

Also present in the event were Doctor Danda Juanday, City Administrator of Cotabato City, lawyer Lanang Ali, Jr. from Bangsamoro Transition Commission,  Prof. Abhoud Syed Lingga of Institute for Bangsamoro Studies, Jun Mantawil, MILF Secretariat Chairman and Sheikh Khalifa Nando, Chief Justice of MILF Shari’ah Supreme Court.
