Davao Del Sur Bangsamoro Women reaffirm optimism in forging new Bangsamoro Enabling Law

Amidst their acceptance of non-inclusion of Davao Del Sur in the proposed Bangsamoro government, Bangsamoro women in the said province reaffirmed their optimism in the forging of the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) being crafted by the Bangsamoro Transition Commission (BTC).

Such a reaffirmation was made during the 2nd General Assembly of the Davao del Sur Bangsamoro Muslim Women Association, Inc. (DASUBMWA) on May 6, 2017 at Darong Training Center, Purok Guava, Darong, Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur where officers and members of the organization pushed a strong call for passage of undiluted enabling law when it reaches the House of Congress. 

They also called for the establishment of Shari’ah District Court in the region. 

In their resolution, they called for the inclusion of the greater Davao region in the Senate Bill 1346 sponsored by Senator Loren Legarda where she introduces five (5) special judicial districts in the ARMM and the activation of six (6) additional Shari’ah courts, but failed to include the Davao region in her proposal. 

During the program, Suraima Q. Naga, DASUBMWA President gave the rationale and overview of the program and reviewed the activities that the organization had undertaken a year ago. 

She gladly said that whatever the organization had achieved and extended was nothing but a fruit of their sacrifices and self-reliance. 

On one hand, Jobayra Tandalong, Executive Director of the Bangsamoro Women Organization of Davao Oriental (BAWOrDO) and keynote speaker focused on the importance of unity and cooperation among Muslim women. She reiterated that unity and cooperation is a shared responsibility and must lead into enjoining what is good and forbidding what is evil. 

DASUBMWA is a non-government, non-profit organization registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on January 28, 2015 but was organized early in 2014. 

The organization had its members scattered throughout the provinces but started with only fifteen (15) incorporators. Presently, it has grown its numbers into forty four (44) and still growing.
