Pres. Duterte intends to meet Congress leaders to push for BBL approval

The President intends to meet with Congress leaders soon to push for the BBL approval following his meeting with MILF chair Al Haj Murad Ebrahim and other officials of the MILF and the Bangsamoro Transition Commission (BTC) in Malacañang last Monday, Manila Bulleting online report said.

President Duterte has assured the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) about his support for the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL), saying it is a “high priority” of his administration.

In a press briefing at Malacañang Palace, Presidential spokesman Ernesto Abella told reporters that PRRD assured MILF leaders and the Moro people that BBL is an executive priority bill, the Manila Bulletin online report also said.

“The President assured them that he considers this high priority and vital to the future of Mindanao and the nation. He is asking to meet with the Senate President and Speaker of the House to facilitate the process,” he said.

The MILF earlier reportedly criticized the government for its noncompliance with the signed peace agreements, citing the proposed BBL’s lack of sponsor in Congress. The group claimed that the Bangsamoro measure was supposedly not included in the list of priority legislations discussed during the Legislative Executive Advisory Council (LEDAC) meeting last month.
