MILF Kutawato Political Committee, North Upi LGU hold Joint Peace Advocacy Assembly

The MILF Kutawato Political Committee, and community leaders of North Upi, Maguindanao held Joint Peace Advocacy Assembly with the theme: “Understanding, and Supporting the Bangsamoro Peace Process, and the New Bangsamoro Basic Law 2017”, on January 20, 2018 at North Upi, Maguindanao.

Zukalnin Mamalangkas, one of the organizers, said “The aim of the peace advocacy assembly is to level off the understanding of the Bangsamoro Peace Process, and the New Bangsamoro Basic Law 2017 (BBL) crafted by the Bangsamoro Transition Commission (BTC).”

“Understanding the provisions of BBL can manage our frustrations as it contained the solutions to our grievances towards the government. The passage of the BBL is the answer to decades of conflict in this part of the country.”

“We support the democratic struggle of the Bangsamoro people to achieve our right to self-determination”, he added.

Prof. Esmael A. Abdula, President of Kalilintad Peacebuilding Institute (KPI) and BLMI Training Officer, said the “Proposed BBL is inclusive to all stakeholders in the Bangsamoro, to include the indigenous people, and the migrant settlers.”

“The legitimate Bangsamoro political struggle is recognized by the international community who is supporting the peace process, and through various forms of humanitarian assistance,” Abdula added.

“Addressing the Moro Historical Injustices is the ultimate solution to the Bangsamoro Problem”, Abdula stressed. 

He called on the IPs, and the migrant settlers to unite with their Moro brethren in urging the Philippine Government to immediately pass the BTC-draft BBL”, Abdula.

Rommel Erese, Representative of Teduray Provincial Sector, said “We are calling everybody to help, and support the Bangsamoro peace process for our own welfare, and the future of our children in Bangsamoro Homeland. The Indigenous peoples, Muslims and the Christians must work together for peace, and development to end the bloodshed, and animosity in Mindanao.”

Teduray community leaders, Christian community leaders, women sector, Muslim community leaders, MILF supporters, and sympathizers, and staff of Kalilintad Peacebuilding Institute Khairudin Anwar, Abdulaziz Talib, and Molox Ukat attended the peace advocacy assembly.
