Mindanao Bangsamoro CSO leaders to hold peace summit in Marawi City

COTABATO CITY. FEBRUARY 15, 2018. The Consortium of Bangsamoro Civil Society Organization will hold a three days Bangsamoro CSO leaders Peace Summit from February 17 - 20, 2018 at Mindanao State University Main Campus, Marawi City.

The theme of the peace summit is, " Promoting Peace, Preventing Extremism thru the passage of the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL). 

The holding of the activity is supported by the United Nation Development Programme (UNDP) in coordination with Institute of Peace and development in Mindanao ( IPDM), Mindanao State University relative to their peace program. 

The holding of peace summit is to validate the output of the previous two regional consultation - dialogues among Bangsamoro CSO leaders. 

Participants will come from the provinces of Maguindanao, North Cotabato, Davao, South Cotabato, Sarangani, Sultan Kudarat, Lanao Sur and Lanao Norte, Zamboanga Peninsula, Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-tawi and the cities of Cotabato, Marawi, General Santos, Davao, Zamboanga, and Lamitan. 

It is expected that participants will urge congress to fast track the passage of BBL to finally end bloodshed, and frustrations of the Moro people due to the bad fate suffered by the previous BBL.

One feature of the activity is a solidarity walk for peace as a gesture of the CSO's sympathy to the plight of the victims of violence in the Marawi siege, and will involve the local population, youth, women, and local leaders. 

If permitted by the security sector, the participants will make a brief visit to the " ground zero " to see the ugly face of war, and violence, and to provide them the moral strength to work hard for peace.       

The summit will end by the issuance of declarations related to the BBL, and violent extremism, and holding of a press conference.
