Antao: “We Stand for the Primacy of the Peace Process to Achieve Genuine Peace in Mindanao

MATALAM, NORTH COTABATO (March 31, 2018) --- “We stand for the primacy of the peace process to achieve genuine peace in Mindanao”, said Mohammad “Kelly” Antao, Board member of the 1st District of North Cotabato Province.

In a peace forum organized by the MILF Political Committee, this province, Antao added: “We must support the peace process between the Philippine Government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) because it is aimed for the bright future of our children and the next generation.”

“Historical injustices are the root cause of the conflict in Mindanao; therefore, correcting those historical injustices is the best way to resolve the Mindanao decades armed conflict,” Antao stressed.

Guest speaker Professor Esmael A. Abdula, Training Officer of the Bangsamoro Leadership and Management Institute (BLMI), and President of Kalilintad Peacebuilding Institute (KPI) emphasized “Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB) is a political document signed in 2014 by the GPH and MILF that will create a strong political autonomous region that reflects the Moros’ culture, belief, customs and tradition. 

“Nevertheless, the passage of BBL is unilateral to government of the Philippines,” Abdula said.

Lolita Bernardino, Barangay Captain of Taculen, Matalam, North Cotabato, said “Peace forum is an effective and correct means to gives us the correct information, hears every sentiment, and ideas of people about the present peace process.”

“We must love, respect, unite and understand each other to achieve lasting peace in our community,” Bernardino emphasized to participants.
