Pres Duterte to appoint AFP Chief Gen. Galvez to OPAPP after his retirement

Cotabato City- Malacañang has announced Wednesday that President Rodrigo Duterte will appoint outgoing Armed Forces of the Philippines chief of staff Carlito Galvez Jr. to the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process, a December 5 Philstar report said.

Galvez is set to retire from the military force on December 12, the Philstar report also said.

During the 32nd Cabinet Meeting last Tuesday, Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo said the chief executive announced his intention to appoint Galvez to OPAPP.

The outgoing AFP chief earlier expressed interest to serve as a consultant at the OPAPP.

Galvez was the chief of the Western Mindanao Command, the area command that covers Marawi City—the scene of intense five-month fighting between government forces and Islamic State-inspired Maute last year.

He was also an Army Scout Ranger officer and a veteran of operations against the Abu Sayyaf.

Galvez has twice visited Camp Darapanan, the MILF main camp in Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao.

During his visit last October, he was conferred “Soldier of Peace” Award by the MILF Central Committee and handed to him by no less than MILF Chairman Al Haj Murad Ebrahim.

In his message, Gen. Galvez thanked the MILF and officially declared the end of war between the AFP and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.
