NCMF educates stakeholders on promotion and dev’t of Halal industry and Islamic banking & finance

The National Commission on Muslim Filipinos – Sarangani-Gensan Field Office educated the Halal stakeholders of the provinces of South Cotabato, Sarangani, Sultan Kudarat and the city of General Santos on the promotion and development of Halal industry and Islamic banking & finance.

With the theme “Sustaining Economic Opportunities Towards a Progressive and Peace FUl Society,” the Halal Forum held in General Santos City on October 30-31, 2019 was aimed at orienting the Halal stakeholders on the prospects and challenges on Halal industry and Shari’a-compliant banking and finance.

NCMF-SartGen Fiend Director Atty. Guialil R. Kanda said President Rodrigo Duterte wants the Philippines to be the Halal hub of Asia.

He added that “It should be the Muslim Filipinos who should spearhead in the production and promotion of Halal products.”

NCMF XII Regional Director Datu Mama Sinsuat, Jr. stressed the importance of Islamic financing as fund source in producing Halal products.

“The Religious Basis on Halal and the Principles of Riba-free Economy” was discussed by Sheikh Ibrahim Andang, Jr.

Dr. Danda Juanday, President of Regional Halal Agri-Fishery Council (RHAFC) noted the importance of collaboration between the RHAFC, stakeholders and government agencies to jumpstart the Halal industry development in Region XII.

Representatives from the Department of Agriculture, Department of Tourism and Department of Trade and Industry were also invited to present their respective agency’s efforts and role on Halal industry development.

Program implementers from the local government units of Sarangani province and city of General Santos shared their programs and projects on Halal industry development in the locality.

Bai Amina Saliao,, the Branch Manager of Al-Amanah Islamic Bank in Gensan shared the prospects and challenges oi the implementation of Islamic banking and finance.

The participants also gave their recommendations on how to address the challenges being faced in the Halal industry promotion and development.

Director Kanda said the suggestions of the Halal stakeholders in the region will be brought to the upcoming Halal and Islamic conference in Manila this November.
