Bangsamoro Multimedia Network Hosts Voter Education Training for BIAF-MILF Members

The Bangsamoro Multimedia Network (BMN) organized a Training of Trainers on Voters’ Education for 33 members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces (BIAF-MILF) from six major MILF camps.
This event, held on September 20-21, 2024, at the Bangsamoro Leadership and Management Institute (BLMI) Training Center in Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao del Norte, was conducted in collaboration with the Bangsamoro Parliament as part of Activate Bangsamoro Phase 4, supported by The Asia Foundation (TAF) and the UK Government.

Mohagher Iqbal, a prominent member of the MILF Central Committee, Chairman of the Information Committee and Minister of the Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE). 

Iqbal, who serves as the Chairman of the Peace Implementing Panel of the MILF and Co-Chair of the Intergovernmental Relations Body (IGRB), emphasized the critical importance of cooperation in ensuring peaceful elections in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) in 2025. He highlighted that collaborative efforts among various stakeholders are essential for fostering a secure and orderly electoral process.
Other notable speakers included Mr. Jorjani S. Sinsuat from the Bangsamoro Information Office, Mr. Gerardo T. Conception III from the Bangsamoro Parliament, Atty. Alianna Arnica A. Mambatao, OIC of the Legislative Measures and Legal Assistance Division of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority, Ustadh Abu Saima Kusain of the MILF-CCCH, and Engineer Misuari “Jake” Abdullah, Program Officer at TAF, along with his colleague Mr. Al Nur Mampen.

This initiative aims to empower participants with essential knowledge and skills for effective voter engagement, ultimately enhancing democratic participation in the Bangsamoro region.
The BARMM elections in 2025 will involve the selection of members for the Bangsamoro Parliament, as well as local government officials within the region.

This electoral event is significant as it marks the first regular election since the establishment of the BARMM under the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) in 2019, following decades of conflict and efforts for peace. 

The elections aim to strengthen democratic governance, ensure representation for the Bangsamoro people, and further consolidate the peace process in the region. Various stakeholders, including the national government, local authorities, and civil society organizations, are working to promote a peaceful and credible electoral process.
