GENERAL SANTOS CITY— On World Teachers' Day (October 5), Mohagher Iqbal, the Minister of the Ministry of Basic, Higher, and Technical Education (MBHTE) for the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), expressed profound gratitude and admiration for the region's educators. He emphasized the crucial role of teachers' voices in driving meaningful change, as highlighted in a recent MBHTE Facebook post.
“Today, as we celebrate your contributions, I urge you to continue advocating for education reform and embrace your vital roles in nurturing the next generation. You are the true architects of our future, and your work is essential in shaping tomorrow's leaders, thinkers, and changemakers,” Iqbal stated.
“You are the backbone of our education system, and your voices are critical in ensuring that every learner, regardless of their background, has access to quality education,” he continued. Iqbal noted that as the community strives to build a more just and inclusive society, the insights and feedback from educators will be vital in shaping policies and reforms to address the unique challenges in the region.
In his message, Iqbal underscored this year's theme, “Valuing Teacher Voices: Towards a New Social Contract for Education,” highlighting the significant impact educators have on the future of both their communities and the Bangsamoro homeland.
Iqbal reiterated the MBHTE's commitment to supporting teachers through professional development opportunities, access to resources, and fostering environments where their voices are not only heard but acted upon. “Your insights, experiences, and feedback are essential in shaping the policies and reforms we need,” he remarked.
In closing, Iqbal expressed heartfelt appreciation for all teachers and acknowledged that their dedication is instrumental in cultivating future leaders in BARMM. He emphasized that through their tireless efforts, learners acquire the knowledge and values necessary to contribute meaningfully to the region's development.
“Shukran, and may Allah guide us all to provide the best for our learners,” Iqbal concluded, reinforcing the collective commitment to advancing education in the Bangsamoro region.
World Teachers' Day is celebrated annually on October 5. Established by UNESCO in 1994, it commemorates the adoption of the UNESCO/ILO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers, highlighting the vital role teachers play in education and society.
