Peace adviser urges sustained commitment to Bangsamoro transitional justice

Speaking at the forum, "Transitional Justice and Reconciliation: Advancing Peace, Accountability, and Healing in the Bangsamoro," held Tuesday here, Sarmiento said TJR is "bigger than any institution or administration" and remains a national commitment that transcends political transitions.
"Peace agreements do not end with signatures. They are fulfilled through faithful implementations, sustained political will, and enduring partnerships," Sarmiento said in his keynote address.
The forum was organized by the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue (HD) and the Gaston Z. Ortigas Peace Institute (GZOPI), with support from the Swiss government.
Sarmiento said TJR is rooted in a shared responsibility to build a more peaceful and united Philippines, stressing the importance of collaboration in sustaining the dividends of the country's peace process.
TJR, described as the "heart and soul" of the Bangsamoro peace process, is a key component of the Normalization Track under the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB).
Over the years, the Government of the Philippines and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front have worked closely to implement initiatives addressing historical injustices and promoting healing, leading to the development of the TJR Roadmap.
The forum gathered framers of the CAB, TJR subject matter experts, Bangsamoro and national government officials, members of Congress, and representatives of the diplomatic community, development partners, and civil society organizations to strengthen dialogue and collaboration in implementing and sustaining national and regional TJR interventions.
