Lanao Del Sur LGUs Support Bangsamoro Organic Law

CAMP DARAPANAN/ August 18, 2018– The Officials of Lanao Del Sur Local Government Unit (LDS) including municipal mayors, and vice mayors had expressed their support to the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) during their visit the leadership of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) on August 18 at Camp Darapanan, Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao. 

The delegation of LDS local executives was headed by Vice Governor Mamintal “Bombit” Adiong. They were welcomed by MILF Chairman Al Haj Murad Ebrahim, and members of the MILF Central Committee. They handed-over their Manifesto of Support to the BOL, to the MILF leadership.

MILF Chairman Al Haj Murad Ebrahim who had his first-ever meeting with the political leaders of LDS was so thankful for their initiative. The chairman was also optimistic that should the Bangsamoro would unite into “One Bangsa”, achieving a common aspiration is a reality at hand. 

“We acknowledge that what we have achieved today is the fruit of more than forty (40) years of struggle of the Bangsamoro,” Al Haj Murad said. 

He said that he is hopeful that the recent achievement of the Bangsamoro can finally be translated into a real situation that truly served the aspirations of the Bangsamoro. 

Having this good gesture of support, he was also hoping that more political leaders would show up and join the call for having a comprehending bond for the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL), the chairman added.

Meanwhile, Butig Mayor Dimnatang Labay Pansar, President of the League of Municipalities in the Philippines (LMP)-Lanao Del Sur after having introduced the other Local Chief Executives (LCEs) in attendance had articulated their backing for the new law that seeks to create a new platform of government that is more responsive to the Bangsamoro problem.

“We are happy for the passage of the BOL, and so we put our signatures to the manifesto as a show of support to the BOL, and for the upcoming plebiscite,” he said.   

“Makakaasa kayo na kaming mga Official ng Lanao del Sur at mga mayors ay suportado ang Bangsamoro Organic Law (Please be assured that we officials of LDS support the BOL,” he further said. 

Vice Governor Adiong, on the other hand delivered a strong message of support for the BOL, and the Bangsamoro Government as he read the contents of their manifesto signed by Governor Bedjoria Soraya Alonto-Adiong, himself and the thirty-nine (39) mayors of Lanao Del Sur. 

“Lahat po kami pati ang mga mayor ng Lanao del Sur ay magtatrabaho at magpapakahirap upang manalo ang Yes sa darating na plebisito,” (All of us and the mayors of LDS will work hard to make sure that Yes votes will win during the plebiscite), the officials said in their manifesto of support. 

He (Adiong) then turned-over their manifesto to Chairman All Haj Murad, who gladly received it. 

The full texts of the manifesto were as follows:

We, from the province of Lanao del sur and its corresponding Local Government units, wish to express our unwavering support to the recent enactment of the Bangsamoro Organic Law.

We believe that the spirit by which it is written mainly to resolve the decades long problem of peace and economic prosperity not only for the Bangsamoro, but for the nation as a whole.

We are looking forward to the upcoming plebiscite as a vital legal step for this law to take its historic course.

We fully support the creation of Bangsamoro Transition Authority to oversee the much awaited change towards a greater and stronger Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

Lastly, we wish to express our deepest gratitude to President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, the MILF leadership, the Senators, Congressmen and all other stakeholders in the fortitude to rewrite a better future for the Bangsamoro.
