Maguindanao Political Leaders support Bangsamoro Organic Law

Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao— Thousands of Bangsamoro flocked to Buluan Municipal Gymnasium to show support to Bangsamoro Organic Law set for ratification on January 21, 2019.

In a grand forum on BOL held on Tuesday, September 4, Maguindanao political leaders led by Governor Esmail Mangudadatu vowed to campaign for a "yes" vote during the plebiscite.

Gov. Mangudadatu organized the forum in support of the 20-year peace process between the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.

The BARMM or Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao also known as R. A. 11054 will replace the ARMM which former President Benigno Aquino described as a “failed experiment’.

The law signed by President Rodrigo Duterte on July 27 grants more administrative and political powers to the new region, which the Moro Islamic Liberation Front described as 80% to 90% compliant to Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro.

The CAB was signed by then GPH Peace Panel Chair Prof. Miriam Coronel -Ferrer and MILF Peace Panel Chair Mohagher Iqbal at Malacañang Ground on August 27, 2014.

As embodied in the CAB, the BARMM shall be led by the MILF during the transition until the 2022 elections, or for a period of about 3 years.

Those attended the forum include Senior police and military officers from various towns in Maguindanao.

Atty. Omar Crisostomo Sema, a member of the Bangsamoro transition Commission (BTC) representing the MNLF-Jikiri Group explained the important features of the BOL.

Sema also tackled the powers of the BRAMM over the region’s natural resources that are found and can be explored by the regional government.

In his message Gov. Mangudadatu appealed to the participants to vote in favor of the BOL during the January 21st plebiscite.

"Political leaders in the province, including me and members of the Mangudadatu clan support the efforts of the MILF and the government to solve the now 50-year Moro rebellion in Mindanao. We are for the BOL," he said.

MILF Chair Al Haj Murad Ebrahim, MILF Chairman who was represented at the forum by senior MILF officials said that the MILF is grateful to the provincial government of Maguindanao for initiating the activity, and for their statement of support to the implementation of the BOL.
