Upi Parish Pastoral Council Holds Symposium on BOL

COTABATO CITY- The Upi Pastoral Council headed by Chairman Alex Penaloza, Sr. in collaboration with the Knights of Columbus, Local Government Unit of Upi and Bangsamoro Transition Commission organized a Symposium on the Highlights of Bangsamoro Organic Law and Peace Process with a Theme: " Unite our feet into the way of Peace and Security " held at Municipal Gymnasium, Upi, Maguindanao on October 2, 2018.

The symposium aims to have a better understanding on the important provisions of the BOL that may affect the non - Islamized residents of Upi and knowing on how they can support its ratification on January 21 next year.

The activity was attended by about 350 participants coming from different Christian religious denominations, Church leaders and Pastors of different congregations, Academe, Women, Students, IP Traditional leaders, Local and Barangay officials, Muslim religious leaders, Security sectors and other Stakeholders of the Municipality of Upi.

The Resource speakers were Commissioners of the Bangsamoro Transition Commission (BTC) led by MILF Peace Implementing Panel Chair Mohagher Iqbal, Melanio U. Ulama , Romeo Saliga and Susana Anayatin who discussed their respective topics on BOL and Peace Process , its implications , opportunities and challenges.

After the respective presentations of the speakers, open forum followed, and most of the queries centered on the concept of religious freedom and the IPs and settlers’ representation in the Bangsamoro Parliament and the manner of choosing their representative.

Activity was concluded with the presentation of Message of Support from sectoral leaders headed by the Local Chief Executive Ramon A. Piang Sr. who reiterated their unconditional support to the BOL, and vowed to campaign for a Yes vote during the plebiscite.
