National Ulama Cooperation of the Philippines Condemns killing of Imam Abdullah

Cotabato City–In a brief statement the National Ulama Cooperation of the Philippines strongly condemned the killing of Sheikh Bedijim Abdullah, who served as a Muslim cleric at the Philippine Military Academy.

Abdullah preaches at Discover Islam Baguio, a religious school. Accordingly, he had previously denounced all forms of extremism. He is the vice chairman of the multi-sectoral Regional Advisory Council of the Cordillera police. We call upon the authorities to conduct thorough investigations to give justice. Let us work together to make our community a safer place where human security is given utmost protection from our authorities.

Imam Abdullah was shot dead at Kayang Street inside the public market at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday Dec. 6, according to a report by Inquirer.Net.

A lone assailant gunned down Bedijim Abdullah, who served as a Muslim cleric at the Philippine Military Academy. He preaches at Discover Islam Baguio, a religious school, the Inquirer.Net report also said.

The same articles said that he was shot twice in the head, and three times in the torso. The police have yet to provide more details about the attack, although initial reports said the gunman was also shot by pursuing lawmen.
