DOH reminder to Muslims: Perform prayer of Taraweeh in houses

GENERAL SANTOS CITY -The Department of Health this Thursday (April 23) reminded Muslims in the country to perform Taraweeh prayers to their houses to stop the spread of Corona virus 2019 (Covid-19).
According to Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire in a televised briefing, the DOH knows that it is part of the Muslims tradition of praying Taraweeh together in mosques.
" Instead, it is encouraged that they pray in their homes and stay indoors throughout Ramadan and ECQ (enhanced community quarantine)," she added.
According to Vergerei, the National Commission on Muslim Filipino has released a memorandum regarding suspension of Taraweeh in mosques and prayer rooms across the country.

" It is difficult, as much as possible to follow the protocols of ECQ liike physical distancing, frequent hand washing, and cough etiquette or proper coughing," she said.

NCMF is the main agency that promotes the rights of Filipino Muslims and responds to their unique needs in accordance with their tradition and beliefs.
The said memorandum was made in accordance with the advice of the Ulama and mufti.
In Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, the Regional Darul ifta, headed by the Mufti of Bangsamoro, Sheikh Abuhuraira Uasan, has already released fatwa regarding the suspension of congregational prayers in mosques including Taraweeh.
