UNHCR turn-overs PPEs to BARRM to help strenghen Covid-19 response

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) turned over thousands of Personal Protective Equipments (PPEs) to the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao on Friday (June 26) in a bid to help strengthen the Bangsamoro government’s response to Corona Virus Disease-2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.
In a post by Bureau of Public Information of BARMM, it said that Chief Minister Ahod ‘Al Haj Murad’ Ebrahim attended the turnover ceremony and signed the receiving documents from Sapia Taulani, Senior Protection Associate of UNHCR.

The Chief Minister admitted that BARMM needs support of the donor communities, national government and other agencies of the United Nations to address and face the challenges brought by Covid-19.

“Our international donors are swift when responding to our needs,” Chief Minister Ebrahim said and underscored, “Their timely actions contributed a lot to our initiatives in containing the virus in the region.”

He said they are still uncertain as to when the health crisis will end, thus they need to prepare for the future.

The donated supplies were 100 plastic tarpaulins (with eyelets, fire retardant 4X5m), 1,110 pieces of N95 masks, 1,110 pairs of patient care gloves, 3,000 pcs of surgical caps, 3,000 pairs of shoe covers, 500 boxes of medical masks, and 4,740 pieces of face shields.

The chief minister said most of the medical supplies will be used for the returning overseas Filipino workers and locally stranded individuals.
Present in the ceremony was Atty. Naguib Sinarimbo, BARMM’s Interior and Local Government Minister and Bangsamoro READi Head, who requested the PPEs from UNCHR.

He said, “UNHCR is one of our first donors, who provided tents and necessary equipment when accommodating repatriated Filipinos and put them in our isolation facilities at Sibakel Island,”

Taulani hoped for UNHCR’s continued partnership with the Bangsamoro government. She said, “This is just the beginning of our renewed commitment to the BARMM region. In this trying times, every action counts.”

The PPEs will be distributed to the provinces of BARMM aimed to strengthen the fight against the dreaded corona virus. (Sources: Bureau of Public Information,  BARMM READi)
