BTA urges authorities to expedite Kabacan massacre probe

The Bangsamoro Transition Authority passed a proposed resolution on Thursday (Sept 17) the urging the Philippine National Police (PNP), National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), and Commission on Human Rights (CHR) to expedite the investigation on the massacre of nine (9) civilians in Kabacan, Cotabato Province.
Passed during its 43rd session, BTA Proposed Resolution No. 302 strongly condemns the massacre of nine (9) civilians in Kabacan, Cotabato Province on August 29, 2020.

The incident happened at noon time along a provincial road at the University of Southern Mindanao.

In a report posted at the bangsamoro.gov.ph, it is said that MP Jose Lorena proposed to respectfully urge the PNP, NBI and the CHR to fast track the investigation of the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Principal author of the resolution lawyer Paisalin Tago said the Bangsamoro Parliament needs to have a stand regarding the said killing in Kabacan.

The resolution was co-authored by MP Deputy Speaker Hatimil Hassan, Atty. Nabil Tan, Alim Ali, Eduardo Guerra, Mohammad Yacob, Dr. Safrullah Dipatuan, Atty. Jose Lorena, Abraham Burahan, Abdullah Hashim, Dr. Marjanie Macasalong, Alim Shiek, Suharto Ambolodto, and Atty. Ubaida Pacasem.

BARMM Chief Minister Ahod Balawag Ebrahim assigned public order and safety minister MP Hussein Munoz to lead the investigation.
The Kabacan massacre has drawn condemnation from various individuals and organizations.

The session was held at the BTA Executive Lounge via teleconferencing and was attended by 54 members of the parliament.

In observance of health protocols, only limited number of individuals were allowed inside the venue.
