MOH conducts workshop on integration of Fatwa on Reproductive Health & Family Planning in the existing IEC materials

The Ministry of Health (MOH) - BARMM in collaboration with the Regional Darul- Ifta' conducted a workshop on October 21-22, 2020 on the integration of Fatwa on Reproductive Health & Family Planning in the existing IEC (Information and Education Campaign) materials of the MOH.
The activity was supported by United Nation Population Fund (UNFPA) in partnership with Mindanao Organization for Social and Economic Progress, Inc. (MOSEP).
BARMM launched last November 19, 2019 the new Fatawa (Islamic rulings) on Reproductive Health and Family Planning and Immunization.

The said religious guidelines were developed after a series of consultation with Ulama (Islamic scholars) and concerned stakeholders from the Provinces of Lanao Del Sur, Maguindanao, Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-tawi, and Cities of Lamitan and Marawi.

During the launching, BARMM Chief Minister Ahod “Murad” Ebrahim said he wanted to ensure that Muslim families have the freedom to decide on the health services they shall receive.

MOH Minister Dr. Safrullah Dipatuan said the fatwa shall guide Muslim communities on proper family planning and on how to ensure their reproductive health are implemented according to Islam. [Sources: MOH, PNAs]
