2 villages in Carmen, N. Cotabato receive hybrid rice seeds from MAFAR-BARMM

COTABATO CITY/November. 26 – The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform (MAFAR) of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) distributed 217 bags of hybrid rice seeds (NSIC 222 Variety) to two irrigators’ associations in Nasapian and Kibayao villages, both in Carmen, North Cotabato on Wednesday, November 25.
Arches Angeles, MAFAR’s report officer assigned with the BARMM’s Special Geographic Area (SGA) in North Cotabato, said the rice seeds were given to the farmers in response to their request for assistance.

“Given the low selling price of palay nowadays, we hope the rice seeds assistance will help alleviate the plight of the farmers,” Angeles said.

Headed by its administrator, Mohammad Kelie Antao, the SGA is composed of the 63 villages in North Cotabato that joined the BARMM during the plebiscite held on February 6, 2019.  It includes Nasapian and Kibayao.

Angeles said that on November 13, MAFAR also distributed 300 bags of the same variety of rice seeds to farmers in Mudseng village in Midsayap, North Cotabato.  The distribution was led by Macmod Mamalangkap, MAFAR’s focal person for the SGA.

“Each bag contained 40 kilograms of rice seeds,” Angeles said.
