15th Malaysian-led IMT makes Exit Call to BARMM Chief Minister Ebrahim

Camp Darapanan, Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao -The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) Chairman, also Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Chief Minister, Ahod "Al Haj Murad" Ebrahim, alongside other MILF top brass and BARMM officials welcomed Major General Dato’ Muhammad Anwar Bin Abdullah, the Head of Mission of the International Monitoring Team (IMT) and his contingent, as they make an exit call earlier today, 4 April 2021 at Camp Darapanan, Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao.
The exit call ceremony marks the end of more than a one year tour of duty of the 15th Malaysian contingent of the IMT. 

The IMT was launched in October 2004 to oversee the implementation of the GPH-MILF ceasefire agreement of 2003. IMT is tasked, among others, to monitor the security, humanitarian, rehabilitation and development, socio-economic assistance and civilian protection aspects of the agreement.

The Head of Mission was accompanied by his Deputy Head of Mission, Brigadier General Khalil Bin Mohammad Ali, his Chief of Staff, Captain Hazrine Bin Mohammad Taib, his Chief of Admin. and Logistics, Captain Rozaini Bin Abu Hassan, his Chief of Operations, Supt. Mohammad Hafiz Jenhangir Shah Bin Mohammad Afzal, his SO2 Admin. and Logistics, Lt. Commander Azizul Bin Ab Maler, his Medical Officer, Major Syed Fareez Bin Syed Nasir, his SO2 Operations Officer, Captain Muhammad Zaman, his CPC Chief Coordinator, Hazwan Afiqq Hamzah and his closed- in escort, SSgt. Abd Rizam Bin Senin.

Chief Minister Ebrahim in his message extended his gratitude to the IMT and other members of the international contingent such as, Brunei, and Japan for the support given to the Bangsamoro, and acknowledged their contributions in the implementation of the ceasefire agreement as one of the most important mechanisms of the entire peace process.

Head of Mission Major General Abdullah, expressed his gratitude to the leadership of the MILF, and shared his experience in conducting various activities and peace dialogues to strengthen and empower the Bangsamoro People towards sustainable peace and development in the region.

He was also grateful to have witnessed the development of the current leadership through its Moral Governance advocacy despite the COVID-19 pandemic all over the country, particularly in the Bangsamoro Region. 

Education Minister Mohagher Iqbal for his part also expressed his gratefulness for the long years that the IMT has been part of the Bangsamoro narrative and its journey. 

The IMT and other ceasefire mechanisms were instrumental in laying the foundations of the peace negotiations, which led to the signing of the Framework Agreement on the Bangsamoro (FAB) in 2012, and the Comprehensive Agreement of the Bangsamoro (CAB) in 2014.
