Zamboanga City Bangsamoro CSO, Fisher Folks join appeal for BTA Extension 2025

SINUNUC, ZAMBOANGA CITY (July 25, 2021)- Peace is everyone’s concern, thus, we need to sustain the gains of the peace process. This was the collective appeal of fisher folks sector from Sama-Badjao in Zamboanga City on Saturday on July 24.
Members of Bangsamoro Civil Society Organization (CSO) and other sectors in Zamboanga city made a last ditch appeal to President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and to Philippines Congress to extend the term of Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) to 2025 in order to complete the BTA mandates in translating into action the provisions stipulated in the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) or R.A 11054.

Mr. Anni Sabdula, CSO Member and Bangsamoro community leader along with other members and fisher folks sectors in west coastal areas in Zamboanga city said that we could not afford to sacrifice the gains of peace process for it was the product of painstaking negotiation associated with the blood and sweat of Bangsamoro Mujahideen. The three-year period of BTA is too short for a transitional government to translate and complete the provisions of the Bangsamoro Organic Law.

On her part, Ustadza Kah Dayang Asta, from women sector said that the Bangsamoro people have been pinning their hopes and expectations from the implementation of the organic law hampered by the 2019 pandemic.

In an effort to empower the Bangsamoro people in the grassroots, officer from Bangsamoro Leadership and Management Institute (BLMI) Mr. Tirso Tahir facilitated the CSO activities in the areas in a bid to make the community leaders participative in peacebuilding endeavors that can help sustain the gains of Bangsamoro peace process.
