MOH-BARMM official passes away

COTABATO CITY – A high-ranking official of the Ministry of Health in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (MOH-BARMM) died on Saturday at the Cotabato Regional Medical Center (CRMC) here.

MOH Minister Zul Qarneyn Abas said Dr. Ameril Usman died of ‘diabetes complications.’

Usman was the director-general of the MOH and the Officer-In-Charge (OIC) Chief of the Iranun District Hospital in Parang, Maguindanao.

BARMM Senior Minister Abdulraof Macacua said Usman once served as OIC of the MOH.

“This (his appointment as OIC Minister) was at the time that the country was in full swing in fighting the COVID-19  pandemic. He performed more than what the Bangsamoro expected from him,” Macacua said.

“We will forever be grateful for Dr. Usman’s courage to take on the challenge of leading the Bangsamoro Government’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic as officer-in-charge of the MOH. His leadership was an important part of our region’s ability to sustain a low transmission and to assure that communities across the BARMM are vaccinated,” Bangsamoro Chief Minister Ahod Balawag Ebrahim said in a statement.

“His peers and those around him will remember Dr. Usman for his passion for public health and serving those in need. Whether it’s serving a local hospital or going around underprivileged towns or working in the Health Ministry proper, dedication to health care has always been his biggest priority in life,” Ebrahim said.

Cotabato City Mayor Mohamad Ali “Bruce” Matabalao said “the City Government of Cotabato joins the Bangsamoro Region in mourning the passing of Ministry of Health Director-General Dr. Amirel Usman. His dedication to duty was an inspiration, and his legacy of unwavering service to the Bangsamoro. Our thoughts are with the Usman Family at this time.”
