MILF, DILG condemn killing of innocent students in Pikit, Cotabato

COTABATO CITY – The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF)  Coordinating Committee on the Cessation of Hostilities (CCCH) condemned the senseless shooting and killing of innocent students in Pikit, North Cotabato on Tuesday, February 14, 2023.
Butch Malang, Chairman of MILF CCCH expressed his deepest condolences and sympathy to the parents and relatives of the victims. 

Fahad Dilabuan Guinalan, 15 years old Grade 8 student of Pikit High School died of gunshot wounds, and wounding of Jenuar Abdul and Marjan Amerol Iskak, 13 years old and 14 years old students of Gli-Gli High School, Malang describe it as “an act that deserves the highest form of condemnation.”

Malang said that “the perpetrator of this inhumane act is truly a peace spoiler and abuser of children’s right to life.”

He appealed that justice must be served in favor of the innocent children and their families whose lives and safety were compromised because of the senseless interests of the perpetrators.

"Let us unite and strengthen further our efforts and commitment to eradicate this kind of heartless and merciless act in order to uphold the primacy and preservation of the gains of the GPH-MILF peace process,” he continued.

Meanwhile, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benjamin Abalos, Jr. has also condemned the shooting incident of students in Pikit.

DILG Secretary Abalos, Jr. said that the Department is currently in contact with National Security Adviser Eduardo M. Año and Department of National Defense Secretary Carlito Galvez, Jr. to identify and arrest the suspects behind the said murder.

“Kasalukuyang nakikipag-ugnayan ang Kagawaran kay National Security Adviser Eduardo M. Año at Department of National Defense Secretary Carlito Galvez, Jr. upang tukuyin at masukol ang mga suspek sa likod ng nasabing pamamaslang. Hindi tayo titigil hanggang hindi nagkakaroon ng hustisya ang mga naging biktima at kanilang mga pamilya. Walang puwang ang mga mamamatay-tao sa administrasyon ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. lalo na ang kumikitil ng buhay ng mga bata,” DILG Sec. said.

Abalos said, he assigned the Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin, Jr. to lead the investigation into the shooting in collaboration with their colleagues in the DILG and PNP regional offices.

“Inatasan ko din si Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin, Jr. na pangunahan ang imbestigasyon sa naganap na pamamaril katuwang ang ating mga kasama sa DILG at PNP regional offices. Our resolve on these heinous crimes will not dwindle as we continue to fulfill our mandate to protect the Filipinos,” he stressed. 

Abalos, Jr. said further that the DILG staff and its attached agencies, are wholeheartedly sympathizing with the victims of the indiscriminate shooting that continues to cause fear and anxiety to the people of Pikit, Cotabato. 

“Sa ngalan ng lahat ng mga kawani ng DILG at mga attached agencies nito, buong puso po kaming nakikiramay sa mga nabiktima ng walang habas na pamamaril na ito na patuloy na nagdudulot ng pagkatakot at pagkabalisa sa mga mamamayan ng Pikit, Cotabato. Asahan n’yo pong kami ay makakasama ninyo sa tuluyang pagresolba sa krimeng ito kalakip ang aming pagsusumikap tungo sa pagpapaigting ng kapayapaan sa Mindanao,” the DILG Sec. said in Filipino.
