The Bangsamoro people grieve the demise of Sheikh Abuhuraira Udasan, the grand mufti of the Bangsamoro, on Monday morning, July 3, 2023.

The 81 years old revered religious leader breathed his last at his residence in Lugay-Lugay, Barangay Bagua I, Cotabato City. 

“Mufti Udasan has dedicated his life to propagating Islam across the world […] He will always be remembered as a renowned head of the Bangsamoro Islamic Advisory Council and for his life-long service and dedication to the Bangsamoro struggle.” Bangsamoro Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim said at the Bangsamoro government’s online portal.

Various netizens took to social media to express their sorrow for the passing of the grand mufti.

"Jannatul Firdaus awaits You. You are one of a kind. You will be missed by the entire BARMM," Vivian Untong Sambolawan said in her Facebook page.

“We grieve and deeply saddened by the demise of our beloved Grand Mufti Abuhuraira Udasan,” said Sam Ibrahim.

Tiyakap Kalilintad, an active peace advocacy organization, posted, “We at Tiyakap Kalilintad join the Bangsamoro in deep sorrow over the loss of our beloved Mufti Abu Huraira Udasan. May he be admitted to the highest level of Jannah.”

Civic leader, Hashim Manticayan, said, “DADEN SO MUFTI TANO - PAGIMUWAN SO MGA UNGAYA ENDO PANDUWAN A INIPAMUSAKA NIN KANO BANGSAMORO (Our Mufti has gone. Let us treasure the care and advices he imparted for the Bangsamoro).”

Ubunto Gayak said, “Edsisinggumanan nu Allahu ta'ala su ungaya tano sa kapamagisa isa sa panun i kapatibambaw sa kadtalu nu Allahu ta'ala. Di den ebplis na mamakatundog kami bun a natagak nengka (May Allah increase our care for unity as well as on how we make His word supreme. Without a doubt we will be next in line). 

Rhems Silongan, a champion of women’s rights, said the demise of the grand mufti is a sad day for the Moro nation. “May the Almighty and Merciful Allah grant you Jannatul Firdaus our dear Mufti Abuhurairah Udasan,” she added.

Rahib bin Abdulaziz, a development worker and peace advocate, said, “Shukran Bapa Mufti sa Libro a in'nggay ngka sa laki endaw den mun ikinauli ngka sa Inged a Bangsamoro titled ‘The Wisdom of Jihad’ seka iAuthor nin, Alhamdulillah (Thanks dear uncle for the book which you authored that you gave me when you came back.”

Hamodi Lao Tiboron, said, “May Allah S.W.T. give you grant you the highest level of Jannah our beloved Mufti. Maraming salamat sa lahat ng naituro at mga paalaala niyo po sa amin (Thanks for all that you taught us and reminders)”
