One Gensan Muslim Ummah, CMO-ICCAD holds Istiqbal (Welcoming) Ramadhan

General Santos City (March 9, 2024) - The One Gensan Muslim Ummah, a collaborative consortium of Muslim organizations in General Santos City, and the City Mayor's Office Integrated Cultural Communities Affairs Division (CMO-ICCAD), headed by city mayor Lorelie Geronimo Pacquiao, hosted the annual Istiqbal Ramadhan event at the Lagao Gymnasium, this city today.
With more than two thousand attendees hailing from various barangays of the city, the event aimed to enlighten the community on the significance and preparations for the upcoming holy month of Ramadhan, which is anticipated to commence on March 9 or 10.
Ramadhan holds a special place in the hearts of Muslims worldwide, being one of the five pillars of Islam, obligating fasting upon every eligible Muslim. To provide valuable insights into this sacred period, five prominent Ulama (Muslim religious scholars) were invited as resource speakers.

Sheikh Abdullah Edres discussed the "Oneness of Family and Sharing Love." Following him, Sheikh Khadafy Mangansakan delved into the topic of "Sabr, our Powerful Armour," emphasizing the importance of patience during the month of fasting. Sheikh Ibrahim Andang, Jr., explored the intersection of "Ramadhan, Qur'an, and our Salah," providing a holistic perspective.

Further enriching the discourse, Sheikh Yusuf Butucan highlighted "Why we should be Excited for Ramadhan," while Sheikh Doctor Abdullah Abtahi elaborated  "Ramadhan and its Essential Rulings."

SCL Jocelyn Lambac-Kanda, Division Chief of CMO-ICCAD, expressed gratitude to both organizations and individuals whose collaborative efforts and resources contributed to the success of the Istiqbal Ramadhan event, now in its third consecutive year.She thanked all sponsors who supported the event.

Hon Councilor Odjok Acharon , Executive Assistant Jake Reyes, and the two Muslim Barangay Captains Honorable Abdulwahid Bualan and Hon Abdulrahim Paidumama were also in attendance . The good Barangay Captains also gave in-kind sadaqa for the event.

The event not only served as a platform for knowledge-sharing but also fostered a sense of community and unity among the diverse Muslim population of General Santos City. 

As the holy month approaches, the teachings and wisdom imparted by the Ulama are expected to guide the faithful through a spiritually enriching Ramadhan experience.
