President Marcos Expresses Solidarity with Muslims in Observance of Ramadan

GENERAL SANTOS CITY (March 12, 2024) — President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. conveyed his heartfelt solidarity with Muslim brothers and sisters across the country and around the world as they commenced the holy month of Ramadan. In a message released on March 10, 2023, President Marcos expressed respect and support for the Muslim community during this sacred period of reflection and spiritual growth.
The Bangsamoro Darul Ifta officially announced the commencement of Ramadan on Tuesday (March 12) after the crescent moon was not sighted on Sunday (March 10), marking the 29th day of the month of Shabban.

President Marcos emphasized the significance of Ramadan as a time for self-reflection and spiritual development, where values such as compassion, empathy, and generosity are actively embraced and practiced.

Muslims are observing fasting by abstaining from food, drinks, and sexual acts from dawn until sunset. Many are also engaging in activities like reading the Qur'an, meditation, and charitable acts such as providing free iftar to the needy.

“Truly, this demonstration of faith speaks volumes of their deep introspection and shared devotion, allowing them to create a stronger bond in their communities through their beliefs,” remarked the chief executive.

Acknowledging the invaluable contributions of Muslim Filipinos to the nation's history and heritage, President Marcos recognized their role in shaping the Philippines into the diverse and united country it is today.

He expressed hope that the month-long celebration of Ramadan would strengthen the kinship among Filipinos, fostering forgiveness for past grievances and promoting a spirit of harmony that contributes to collective progress.

“It is my hope that this month-long celebration will strengthen our kinship, open our hearts to forgive past grievances, and embrace a spirit of harmony that will redound to our collective progress,” added President Marcos.

In closing, the President extended his warm wishes for a meaningful and solemn celebration, encouraging unity, understanding, and shared prosperity for all during this auspicious month of Ramadan.
