The BARMM BIMP-EAGA Economic Growth and Linkages (EGL) Sub-Committee, a segment of the Economic Development Committee (EDCom) of the Bangsamoro Economic and Development Council (BEDC), organized a capacity-building session on August 21-22, 2024, in General Santos City. The session concentrated on the Customs, Immigration, Quarantine, and Security (CIQS) Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for importing and exporting Halal and sea products within the BIMP-EAGA region, as highlighted in a recent post on the BPDA's Facebook page.
This training, led by the Bangsamoro Planning and Development Authority (BPDA) in partnership with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), aimed to enhance participants' understanding of BIMP-EAGA CIQS regulations and provide hands-on experience with import and export processes.
Eamarie Gilayo of the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) emphasized the critical role of BIMP-EAGA trade, tourism, and investment in fostering regional development and aligning with national goals.
Eugene Canlas, Chief Regulations Officer of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources XII, shared insights into the BIMP-EAGA Fisheries Quarantine SOPs.Additionally, representatives from the Philippine Exporters Confederation, Inc. (PHILEXPORT) guided a learning visit to the Tuna Fish Landing at the General Santos Fish Port Complex, where participants observed export procedures and discussed best practices and regulatory requirements for food product trade.
Officials from various BARMM ministries, including Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform, Ministry of Trade, Investment, and Tourism, Bangsamoro Planning and Development Authority, Bangsamoro Economic Zone Authority, Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources, and Energy and Ministry of Health, attended the training session.
A meeting between BPDA and MinDA in May led to an agreement to develop a memorandum of cooperation. This memorandum will outline joint planning between BPDA, MinDA, and relevant Bangsamoro ministries, offices, and agencies, aiming to establish a conceptual framework for future collaboration on BIMP-EAGA and interregional matters.( Source: BPDA)
