Bangsamoro recognizes heroes of peace at annual awards ceremony

COTABATO CITY - The Bangsamoro government celebrated the remarkable efforts of grassroots peacebuilders at the 2024 Peace Champions Awards on Monday, September 30. 
The Ministry of Public Order and Safety (MPOS) hosted the ceremony, recognizing individuals who have made significant contributions to fostering peace and harmony within their communities.

The annual awards program, organized by MPOS's education division, highlights the impactful work of individuals who have initiated unique peace projects. 

MPOS Minister Hussein Muñoz emphasized the crucial role of these grassroots initiatives in building a peaceful and harmonious Bangsamoro region.

"We are here to celebrate the collective efforts that have brought us closer to a lasting peace," Muñoz stated. 

Muñoz stressed that the journey towards peace is a challenging one, requiring encouraged attendees to continue working towards a future where peace, justice, and prosperity prevail.

Abdulnasser Binasing, Executive Director of Tiyakap Kalilintad, Inc. and a judge for the awards, praised the awardees for their inspiring work in empowering communities. 

"You have shown us that even in the face of adversity, we can choose the path of peace and work together to build a brighter future," Binasing said.

The grand champion, Jubaira Said from Basilan, was recognized for her exceptional work in providing balanced education to orphans and marginalized Badjao children, offering them essential support through free food, clothing, and lodging. 

Other finalists included Khadiguia Balah from the Special Geographic Area, Edriane Shane Casipong from Tawi-Tawi, Norsayllah Dansalan from Maguindanao del Norte, and Juhra Kiman from Basilan.

The Peace Champions Awards serve as a powerful reminder of the vital role that community-driven initiatives play in building a lasting peace in the Bangsamoro region.
