MSU-Gensan’s Institute of Islamic Arabic and International Studies Participates in Intramurals 2024

The Institute of Islamic Arabic and International Studies (IIAIS) at Mindanao State University General Santos City participated in the university’s Intramurals 2024, aimed at promoting physical activity, teamwork, and healthy competition among students. This marks the first time IIAIS has joined the intramurals since its formal separation from the College of Social Sciences and Humanities (CSSH) in 2023.

The IIAIS team, known as the "Tribals," is comprised of Muslim students representing various Moro tribes, including Maguindanaon, Maranao, Iranun, and Tausug. During the opening ceremony, IIAIS showcased its competitive spirit and cultural heritage, featuring a vibrant “Guinakit,” a traditional Maguindanao boat-shaped float that highlights the rich tapestry of Bangsamoro culture.

The intramurals serve as an important platform for university students to display their talents in sports, strengthen camaraderie, and promote peace and unity among the diverse students comprised of tri-people (Muslims, Christians and Indigenous Peoples), anchored in the theme: “Advancing Academic Excellence and Global Competitiveness, Leading a Transformative National Peace University.”

Officially launched on January 17, 2024, IIAIS aims to produce competent Bangsamoro human resources who can play pivotal roles in the development of southern Mindanao. Under the leadership of Acting Dean Dr. Abdul M. Lantong, the institute has introduced a new major in Islamic Studies with a focus on Shari’a.

IIAIS co-hosted the 4th International Seminar on Islamic Education and Peace (ISIEP 2024) in March, featuring Dr. Lantong as one of the distinguished speakers. The institute has also facilitated several international scholarship programs, opening doors for potential Bangsamoro students to study abroad and broaden their educational opportunities.(With report from UNYPAD-Gensan)
