BHRC condemns attack on its official, calls for justice

COTABATO CITY – The Bangsamoro Human Rights Commission (BHRC) has issued a strong condemnation of the violent attack on the residence of Acting Maguindanao del Sur Provincial Director and Commissioner Archie U. Buaya, which occurred on the evening of October 10 in Labungan, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao del Norte.
The BHRC described the attack as "ruthless and barbaric," emphasizing that it is not only an assault on Buaya's personal safety and security but also a direct affront to the ideals of human rights and justice that the Commission champions.

"This heinous act starkly highlights the urgent need for enhanced safeguards for human rights defenders, who relentlessly dedicate themselves to creating a society where the sanctity of human rights is both honored and preserved with dignity," the statement read.

The BHRC has called upon authorities to conduct a swift, impartial, and thorough investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice. The Commission also urged the public, Local Government Units (LGUs), and law enforcement agencies to stand united in condemning the attack and safeguarding the integrity of human rights work in the region.

The BHRC remains steadfast in its mission to uphold human rights and will not be deterred by acts of violence and intimidation. The Commission expressed its solidarity with Buaya, his family, and those affected by the incident, vowing to continue monitoring the situation closely and pursuing justice and accountability.
