BARMM launches comprehensive plan to tackle malnutrition

COTABATO CITY - The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) has launched a comprehensive plan to address the issue of malnutrition in the region, particularly the stunting of growth in children in remote areas. The Regional Plan of Action for Nutrition (RPAN), unveiled in a symbolic ceremony in Cotabato City on Monday, October 28, outlines a framework for tackling this critical health challenge.
The RPAN, developed through a collaborative effort between officials from the Regional Nutrition Council-BARMM, the Ministry of Health-BARMM, and planners from cooperating agencies, aims to improve the health and well-being of children in the region.

BARMM Health Minister Kadil Sinolinding, Jr., led the launch, emphasizing the plan's role in bolstering the joint efforts of the MOH-BARMM and the Office of the Chief Minister, Ahod Ebrahim, to address malnutrition across all five provinces and three cities of the BARMM.

The region has witnessed a significant reduction in malnutrition rates since the establishment of the BARMM in 2019.  Malnutrition rates, which stood at 45.2% in 2015 during the era of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), have been lowered to 36% by 2021.  This progress is attributed to the increased administrative empowerment of the BARMM and the government's commitment to peace and development.

The RPAN will serve as a guide for health workers in the region, providing a roadmap for implementing the BARMM's anti-malnutrition campaign.  The plan aims to further reduce malnutrition rates and improve the health and well-being of children in the region.

The launch of the RPAN signifies the BARMM's unwavering commitment to addressing the health challenges facing its people.  The plan is expected to play a vital role in improving the overall health and nutrition status of children in the region, contributing to a brighter future for the Bangsamoro people.
