Bangsamoro Government provides financial aid to over 3K indigent senior citizens

A total of 2,439 indigent senior citizens in Lamitan City, Basilan, and 807 from Kabuntalan, Maguindanao del Norte, have received their Social Pension (SocPen) subsidies from the Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD) of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), providing much-needed financial support to vulnerable communities.
The MSSD Regional Social Pension staff distributed P6,000 to each recipient, covering the P1,000 monthly subsidy for the second semester of 2024. The distribution took place in Lamitan City gymnasium on November 4-5 and in Kabuntalan, Maguindanao del Norte, on October 26.

SocPen is a nationally-funded social protection initiative implemented by the MSSD in the BARMM. It aims to provide monthly stipends to senior citizens from the most disadvantaged and vulnerable sectors, helping them meet their daily needs, such as food and medicine.

"MSSD ensures that no senior citizen is left behind," said Sandra Macacua, Focal of the MSSD's Older Persons and Persons with Disability Welfare Program (OPPWDWP).

"We assure you that the Bangsamoro Government and the MSSD worked hand in hand to respond to the needs of every senior citizen in the Bangsamoro region," Macacua said.

The MSSD Provincial Social Welfare Office, both Local Government Units (LGUs), and the Security sector supported the distribution efforts, highlighting a collaborative approach to ensuring the well-being of senior citizens in the region.
